Tomorrow, the Balance-Unbalance Conference 2013 program will be officially launched on the Sunshine Coast to a global audience by Councillor Russell Green.
At a time when the world is experiencing unprecedented ecological threats, Balance-Unbalance Conference 2013 is a global initiative designed to harness the talents of innovators working at the forefront of the arts, science and technology, together with community leaders, to explore how a trans-disciplinary approach can be applied to achieving a sustainable future.
Conference Executive Committee members, Dr Susan Davis and Leah Barclay, will also take this opportunity to provide an overview of the conference objectives, and program highlights.
Balance-Unbalance Conference 2013 will take place from 31 May to 2 June within the UNESCO Noosa Biosphere Reserve - at CQUniversity Noosa, with satellite events conducted at The J Theatre (Noosa), and Lake Cootharaba as part of Floating Land 2013.
"The international team behind Balance-Unbalance was inspired by the proposal to host the conference in the Noosa Biosphere and have supported us all the way,” says Leah.
This will be the first time the Balance-Unbalance Conference will be conducted in the Asia-Pacific region. On this occasion it will be bringing together a dynamic and diverse range of participants from 24 countries – including artists, scientists, activists, philosophers, sociologists, architects and engineers.
Leah says the organisers have been overwhelmed by the response and enthusiasm for the conference, both in Australia and internationally, “It’s quite surreal to think that a chance conversation at the Balance-Unbalance Montreal conference has brought an international event to Noosa. We are delighted to be able to deliver a rich and diverse program with presenters from across the world."
Leah also believes there is a clear synergy between the Balance-Unbalance Conference concept and the Biosphere ethos. "Initiatives such as Balance-Unbalance are what Biosphere Reserves are truly about; passionate and diverse communities coming together to inspire positive global change for a sustainable future," adds Leah.
Balance-Unbalance Conference 2013 is co-hosted by Noosa Biosphere Limited and CQUniversity Noosa, and proudly supported by Sunshine Coast Council and Tourism Noosa.
