Balance-Unbalance International Conference

Balance-Unbalance 2013 is hosted by the UNESCO recognised Noosa Biosphere, a dynamic learning laboratory for sustainability in one of the most pristine and diverse environments in Australia. The three-day conference will take place May 31 to June 2, 2013 at Central Queensland University, with satellite events at Lake Cootharaba as part of the 2013 Floating Land Festival. 

Balance-Unbalance is a major International Conference designed to use art as a catalyst to explore intersections between nature, science, technology and society as we move into an era of both unprecedented ecological threats and transdisciplinary possibilities. 

The Balance-Unbalance International Conference was founded by Argentinean/Canadian artist and academic Dr. Ricardo Dal Farra in 2010 with the main goal to develop the role of the arts and artists in dealing with environmental challenges and transdisciplinary possibilities.

Noosa Biosphere Ltd., the governing body of Queensland’s first UNESCO recognised Biosphere promotes harmony between people and nature through education, conservation and sustainable activities. The diverse board of directors and community volunteers recognised the value of Balance-Unbalance and the obvious synergies with international green art event Floating Land.

We are thoroughly looking forward to hosting artists, scientists, economists, philosophers, politicians, sociologists, engineers and policy experts from across the world to engage in dialogue and action towards a sustainable future. Balance-Unbalance 2013 will also host a diversity of virtual components allowing global accessibility and significantly reducing the carbon footprint of a major international conference.
